Horseback Excursions
We offer half-day (5 hours), full-day (8 hours) and overnight (30 hours) horseback riding excursions through the main canyons in San Miguel de Allende. The ranches and canyons, where our horseback adventures take place, are located just 30 minutes southwest of San Miguel.
During our rides, we explore a series of working cattle ranches west of the city. We discover these ranches, prairies and canyons while on horseback, and the scenery is breathtaking in every direction. For the grand finale, you’ll experience the most delicious organic ranch-style meal, prepared by local ranchers.
During our longer rides, additional activities are included such as learning how to make handmade tortillas and traditional Mexican sauces, visiting with and playing with the ranch animals (goats, chickens, cows, horses, etc.), extended horseback rides, hiking, swimming and galloping through the canyons.
Our excursions are exciting and rugged, yet can also be tailored for families with small children or for seniors who would prefer a slower pace. Our youngest client has been 1 1⁄2 years old, and our eldest guest, 84 years young. No riding experience is necessary for horseback adventures, and all ages are welcome. After a comprehensive riding lesson, the horseback ride begins.
5-Hour Excursion
Half-Day Horseback Ride
Our half-day excursion begins in the mouth of the canyon and along the edge of the river. As we ride, we will have the opportunity to cross the river at several points which is always great fun! During the ride, those who wish to gallop will have several opportunities to do so. We also have a spectacular 20-minute rest stop halfway through this excursion, where we get to search for geodes along the riverbed and take photos at the edge of the cliffs.
After the ride, you’ll experience a truly delicious, ranch-style meal, which includes homemade tortillas, organic beans & cheese, quesadillas, nopales (cactus), rice, salad, guacamole & salsa, among other traditional dishes.
You also have the option to include canyon rappelling, a visit to the local hot springs, or a visit to the local pyramids as an add-on to your horseback riding excursion.

8-Hour Excursion
Full-Day Horseback Ride
We begin our day by learning a little bit about life on the ranch and participating in different daily activities such as making handmade tortillas and Mexican sauces. The kids will enjoy playing with the farm animals and searching for eggs. It is a fantastic full-day of adventure to share with your family! After having a delicious ranch-style breakfast, we begin our ride into Coyote Canyon.
The full-day horseback riding excursion follows the same essential route as the half-day ride, but includes more time for a deeper exploration of the canyon. Plus, the additional hours gives us the opportunity to hike to remote places where the horses cannot access, and if the weather abides, we may have a nice swim in the river. We will also enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the cowboys on the campfire along the way!

26-Hour Excursion
Overnight Horseback Ride
The most complete way to experience the canyon, both by day and night, is to do our overnight horseback riding adventure. This excursion includes a visit to the ranch, where you will learn hands-on how to make fresh tortillas and Mexican sauces. The horseback riding is even more amazing as we explore further into the reaches of the canyon, with many more opportunities to gallop, herd cattle, take roping lessons, and embark on a moonlight night ride.
Our camping riding excursions include all camp gear (tents, sleeping bags, folding chairs, etc.), meals, an evening bonfire, and clear skies permitting, fantastic stargazing.
On the next day, you can complete your adventure rappelling down the 150ft cliffs of the canyon, and follow up with a relaxing visit to our favorite hot springs spa on the way back home.
